What We Believe

If we were asked “What do you believe, as a church?”, and had to put it down on one page, and point to the Scripture that supports it, this is what we would say.

If you would like to know more, we would love for you to join us for worship on a Sunday morning, to hear how this is preached, taught, and worshipped, and to meet the people who live it out. Pastor James would love to hear from you and answer any questions you might have: mattpres@optonline.net, (631) 298 – 4145.

Our life together is based on the Gospel (Romans 8:1); seeks to be true to the Reformed and Evangelical traditions of the Church; and seeks to discern and cooperate with the work of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22

1 Corinthians 12:7-11).

These are our core values:

CHRIST-CENTERED: We believe that Jesus Christ alone is Lord of all (1 Corinthians 8:6) and the only way to salvation (John 14:6) and that at the end of time, we will stand before him (Matthew 25:31-46).

THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE: We believe that all Scripture is divinely inspired and serves as the final authority in all matters of belief and behavior (2 Timothy 3:16).

THE PREACHED WORD: We believe that the Word of God preached is of central importance for our growth as disciples (Isaiah 55:11) and to bringing new people to faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:14-15).

WORSHIP: We believe that we are created by God to worship Him, and that glorifying God is the ultimate reason for our existence (John 4:23-24). Our worship begins with him on the Sabbath – Sunday (Exodus 20:8, Hebrews 10:25), and is carried into the work we do, the families we lead, and the fun we have (Colossians 3:23).

EVANGELISM: We believe that God has called all believers to share Gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20) in thought, word, and deed.

DISCIPLESHIP: We believe that all Christians are called to pursue a growing personal relationship with Christ and to become more mature and Christ-like in their beliefs and conduct (Ephesians 4:13). This happens best through the disciplines of Sunday worship, family, and/or Life Group worship (Joshua 24:15), and personal devotion (Psalm 119:103).

SERVICE: We believe that God cares about the physical (Zechariah 7:10), emotional, and spiritual needs of every person and that all Christians are called to serve those needs (Ephesians 2:10).

FELLOWSHIP: We believe that God instructs Christians to cultivate loving relationships in the covenant community of believers (Romans 12:10), called “the body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27), which is found in the local church (Acts 15:4), and is served and led by Deacons and Elders (Acts 20:28, 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1 and 2, Hebrews 13:17), and Pastors (2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Timothy 4:2, 5).
